Original Platform: PC Now Available: iOS and Android Let’s face it: the kids are constantly talking about it, videos of people playing it or deciphering its lore are among the most popular on YouTube, and like any good horror property, there are already three sequels and a movie. Love it or hate it, Five Nights is actually a very simple, point-and-click series where you control frightened security guards from a first-person perspective, by watching security cameras, and with doors and flashing lights to avoid a brutal implied death at the hands of murderous animatronics. Every game in the series thus far has been built on the same engine, made by the same lone person (Scott Cawthon) and ported to mobile very quickly after the main PC releases.

Original Platform: PC Now Available: iOS and Android Hailed as a 2D Minecraft alternative, Terraria is primarily a survival and adventure game as opposed to its sandbox-focused cousin. Controlled from a two-dimensional perspective, players cut down trees, tunnel through mines for supplies and go on adventures together, using a simple control scheme and advanced crafting mechanics. Terraria has gained legions of dedicated fans for its advanced mechanics and character customization. In addition to its PC-focused roots, Terraria has expanded to nearly every modern console and platform under the sun with the curious exceptions of the Nintendo 3DS, Mac and Linux.
2. Dungeon Defenders
Original Platforms: PC, Mac and Linux Now Available: iOS and Android Dungeon Defenders is likely the closest thing to a full-fledged console experience on this list. Featuring full three-dimensional graphics (with pleasant, cartoony visuals that wouldn’t look out of place on PS3), Dungeon Defenders presents itself as a spin on the traditional tower defense and third-person action RPG genres. Players choose between various classes – such as a knight or a mage – with different stats and manners of play between each. The players then build up their base and defend against waves of enemies, holding them off through a combination of strategy and combat. Dungeon Defenders has all the essentials of what already defines a good game for many people and expands that to a wider audience by being available on both PCs and mobile devices.

Minecraft is an in-depth 3D sandbox game with elements of adventure and RPG found in its Survival Mode. Minecraft’s popularity stems more from its Creative Mode, however, where people have created full-scale models of countries or even fully-functioning computers. Minecraft is essentially the modern child’s grandmaster collection of Legos from which they can create anything they please. Originally developed on PC, Minecraft has seen releases not just on mobile devices, but on consoles as well. Chances are, if it can play video games, someone, somewhere, has gotten Minecraft working on it.
