SysRestore Pro is a lightweight, simple, and useful system restore tool for Windows. It creates a system restore point on schedule and allows you to easily restore from the snapshot. The best thing about it is that you can also restore files (that you deleted accidentally) from the snapshot. It even lets you preview the files before recovering.

Installation

  1. Download SysRestore Pro here and run the installer in your Windows. It will work in both 32-bit and 64-bit system.
  2. During the installation, it will prompt you to disable/uninstall other system restore software to ensure that the whole backup operation is not hindered by other application. It will also disable the Windows default System Restore and Disk Defragmenter Scheduled task features. Lastly, after the installation, it will reboot the system automatically (make sure you save your work before proceeding with the installation). While rebooting, it will also create the first snapshot for your system.

Usage

After the restart, you can open the SysRestore Pro application from your Start menu. This is what you will see – simple layout and easy navigation. From here, you can see the timestamp of the last taken snapshot and you can also create a new system restore point or recover from existing snapshot. When creating a new system restore point, it will prompt you to enter a name (so you can recognize it in the future). Pressing “Create” will start the snapshotting process and the whole process is very fast (less than 3 seconds in my machine). Of course, if you have several TBs of files, it will take more file to create the snapshot. Once the snapshot is completed, you can “lock ” it so it won’t be removed during its regular clean up. The Recovery process is also an easy task, although it may seem scary (for the newbie) after executing it. Once you have selected the snapshot to recover and click the “Recovery” button, the system will reboot and bring you to the Recovery screen (the black screen that shows up when you can’t boot your computer). You just have to proceed as normal (if prompted, select “Start Windows normally) and let it reboot twice to complete the recovery. Once it is done, it will bring you back to the Windows desktop.

Configuration Options

In the configuration options, you can add/remove the partitions to be included in the snapshots, schedule the snapshotting to run on a regular interval (with a minimum of 1 hour interval) and even set a password to allow only yourself to access the application and your snapshots (the snapshot files are hidden by default).

Restoring Deleted files

If you accidentally deleted some important files, you will be glad to know that SysRestore Pro allows you to recover individual files from the snapshot. Click “Rescue Files” in the left panel and select the snapshot to recover your files. While checking the list of files in the snapshot, you can also filter out using the document type – picture, music, video etc. Once you have located your file(s), place a check beside them and click “Next”.
