For those who have been using Spaces, one of the most requested feature is to be able to set a different wallpaper on each Space. It is easy to see why. We, as humans, are visual creatures and associating a different image for each space is the best way to distinctly differentiate each space from another. This makes it easier for us to get to the space we want, and hence increase our productivity. By default, Apple does not provide any settings for us to change the wallpapers. Luckily, you can use this small application – SpaceSuit to get the job done. SpaceSuit is a simple application that require little (or zero) configuration. After you have downloaded and installed SpaceSuit, run it from the Applications folder. You will see the SpaceSuit icon in the dock. Now all you need to do is to drag your favorite wallpaper to the dock. This will set the wallpaper for the current space.

Now repeat this for the next space until you have finished all your spaces. To remove the wallpaper, simply right-click on the dock icon and select “Remove Image”

Done. You have just set different wallpapers for each spaces. When you switch your space, you will see the different wallpaper in action. Next thing you want to do is to set SpaceSuit to run during login. To do this, simply right-click on the dock icon and select “Open at login”.

The mechanics behind SpaceSuit

What SpaceSuit does is to add a layer over your desktop on which images are displayed. When you exit SpaceSuit, this layer is removed and you will get back your default desktop background. Go ahead and try out SpaceSuit and let us know in the comment whether you find it useful.
