How to Take Screenshots
Taking screenshots is very easy on a PS4. If you tap the “Share” button on your controller, you’ll see a menu pop up on the left. You can then scroll down to “Save Screenshot” to take a snapshot of your screen. Don’t worry; the bar won’t appear in your screenshot! Alternatively, while the Share bar is open, you can press the Triangle button on your controller to take a screenshot instantly.
How to Record Video
Recording video is also pretty simple while you’re gaming. What’s important to note, however, is that you don’t have to set up recording before you start gaming. The PS4 can retroactively remember the last 15 minutes of your gameplay; all you need to do is tell it to commit it to a video in order to save it. To save the last 15 minutes of your gameplay, tap the Share button on your controller, then scroll down to “Save Video Clip” on the bar that appears. Alternatively, press Square when the bar is visible to make a shortcut of this action. Despite this very handy feature, you may feel the need to record a specific part of the game. To start recording, double-tap the Share button, then double-tap it again once you’re done. This is very useful when you know what you want to record and don’t want to save a whole fifteen-minute chunk.
How to Share Media
To share your videos or screenshots, go to the main PS4 menu, then select the capture gallery app. Once you’re in it, select the game with the content you want to share.
1. Sharing Images via Social Media
If you want to post your images onto social media, the PS4 supports this. Press the Share button while hovering over the image you want to share. You then have the option to share to Facebook, Twitter, or on your PS4 activities or messages.
2. Sharing Videos via YouTube or Social Media
Similarly, if you press the Share button on a video, you have the option to upload it to YouTube, Facebook, or Twitter. YouTube is a convenient way to share your videos, as you can tell the PS4 to upload it as an unlisted or private video to prevent everyone from seeing it. Then you can share it with close friends or just archive it for later use. If you’ve saved a fifteen-minute chunk but only want to share a small part of it, hover over the video you want to edit, and press the Options button on your controller. Then, select “Trim.” This takes you to an editor where you can cut the video down to size.
3. Sharing Media via USB Storage Device
If you want to share the media through a different channel, it’s best to put it onto a USB storage device. To do this, plug a USB storage device into a port on the PS4, then hover over the media you want to share, and press the “Options” button on your controller. Then, select “Copy to USB Storage Device.”
