MailShot for iPad has enough options to make it very versatile. It has a short tutorial to help you setup your first group. After naming your group, you can either add contacts from your address book, or import from your Mail app, your contacts list, or manually. If you import manually, there are fields to put in a name and an email, but experimenting with it, I found you can also copy and paste in a long list of names and emails from a previous list or email. However, to get this to work, you have to go to the Settings App, and under MailShot, turn off the option for “Check Addresses on Add.”
Groups for iPhone automatically syncs up with your mail contacts. It does not allow you to copy and paste in large groups, with each email having to be added in your contacts list. However, it does have one interesting feature that only a few of the apps have. It includes Smart Groups, which groups your contacts in its own categories such as “By Company,” “Has Email,” “Has Phone Number,” etc.
Tacts for iPhone is very visually appealing, being set on a black background with neon colors. It allows you to assign simple icons for your groups, but the contacts can only be added in from your contact list. Not only does it have Smart Groups, it allows you to set your own rules for making the Smart Group, such as all people with the same last name, or all people with the same word in their email address.
Group for iPhone is a basic group contacts list in both form and function, as well as in its look. It does not have Smart Groups and contacts can only be added in from your contacts list, but it also allows you to do group SMS as well as group email.
