1. Click on the Spotlight icon in the menu bar, or use the “Command + Spacebar” keyboard shortcut to display the Spotlight search bar.

  2. Search for a file or folder and when you find one that you want to cut or paste, highlight the item by hovering your mouse over it.

  3. Press “Command + C “to copy the item to your clipboard for pasting elsewhere.

  4. Go to the app where you want to paste the item (ie. Finder or Mail) and press either option to paste the item: “Command + V” (to copy and paste – creates a copy of the item) or “Command + Option + V” (to cut and paste – completely moves the item).

You should now see the file or folder in the new location. As you can see, copying/cutting and pasting directly is Spotlight is much like anywhere else on the Mac, which also helps to boost your productivity since you more than likely already use these shortcuts regularly. Image Credit: Visualogist
