Design and Usage
The BYB desk lamp comes with a medium-length two-prong power cable, cleaning cloth, user manual, and warranty card. One thing that’s noticeable right off the bat is the extremely slim design of the lamp. When it’s completely folded, it only takes up as much space as a medium thickness book. This makes it really easy to store when not in use, or you can even take it with you on the go. (It will fit nicely into a backpack or laptop bag.) When the lamp is in use, the small base doesn’t take up much space either. Plus, the matte finish (available in black and white/silver) gives it a sleek look. The base also has some weight to it so that it stays put on your desk; you don’t have to worry about it moving around or falling over. One thing really useful about this lamp is the rotatable aluminum lamp head. It can be easily turned to the left or right to better angle the light when needed. The lamp’s arms are also pretty flexible when moving them back and forward. While the bottom arm can go all the way back or forward, the top arm cannot (only forward, not backward). Also, the bottom arm connected to the base doesn’t rotate (left or right), so you have to turn the entire lamp in order to get the light to a different location (e.g. on the opposite side of your desk).

If you are someone who likes to have your mobile device next to you on your desk, nightstand, or table, you’ll appreciate the 2.0A USB charging port on the back of the lamp’s base. Depending on how the lamp is positioned and where it’s located, it could be a little inconvenient to get to the USB port, though. Keeping a long charging cable (e.g. micro-USB, lightning, USB-C) plugged in should help.
Lighting Modes for All Occasions
The BYB desk lamp has four different lighting modes that can be accessed via the “M” button on the control panel. You have to turn the lamp on first (touch the power button on the left side of the control panel), and then repeatedly touch “M” to cycle through the modes: pure white, natural white, warm white, and yellow light. Although it’s a bit difficult to capture each mode with a camera, you get the picture below. It’s a lot more noticeable in person. Not all light modes are going to have the same effect for everyone, but I find that the warm white light is perfect for computer usage, as it’s not too bright and easy on the eyes. I prefer the pure white light for reading and the yellow light for mobile device usage right before bed.
Tweaking Each Mode with 8 Dimming Levels
If you find that a light mode is too dim or too bright for you, you can use the dimmer on the control panel to make adjustments. I love that all it takes is a touch and sliding of your finger to the left or right to change the brightness; there are eight different levels.

If you’re looking for a desk lamp that has special light modes for everything and can be further customized with a dimmer, this one is perfect. Some lamps only allow you to change the brightness of the light, and others allow you to change the light’s warmth, but you’ll have to do it manually.
